French designer Yazid Aksas opens his first brick-and-mortar shop, selling European-style dress shirts ($115–$155) and bespoke suits ($1,000–$1,600) with a bold twist. The narrow store has a wavy installation by architect Gregory Okshteyn (studiosgo.com) and a wall painted every few months with a different mural by new artists. Threads are no less exciting, with ready-made shirts designed in Paris featuring details such as contrasting collars, colored stitching, noncircular buttons and floral-patterned cuffs. Guys can also design a custom, full-canvassed suit using Holland & Sherry fabrics, which you'll have in four to five weeks following three fittings. Finish your dressy look with a tailor-made shirt ($100–$300) that allows you to choose the collar, cuffs, buttons and hem details. For every top purchased in the store, a child in Africa receives a locally made school uniform through Aksel's partnership with nonprofit group CommonThreadz (commonthreadz.org), which helps children in developing nations.
